Rent
Reform Malta
Baron Properties Ltd
"There is also no
doubt, however, that reform must happen if we are to be successful in
achieving sustainable development.
In the preparation of the recommendations presented in this White Paper
care has been taken to design a reform that balances and weaves
the different dimensions in a manner that secures fairness, provides
protection where so appropriate,
and achieves social justice amongst the parties." John Dalli Minister
for Social Policy (29 June 2008)
The Rent
Laws in Malta date back to 1939.......that is almost 70 years ago.
The Rent Laws governing the Islands "Laws of Malta", and the
"principle of fair rent" are today still based on figures dated
as far back as 1949.
Almost 3 years ago, the then Ministry in charge of "Housing"
Dolores Christina, promised to publish a "white paper" amending
the so called "Archaic" Rent laws. The main problem being faced
in today's business society, is where property is rising steadily and at
an
amazingly fast pace, there are a few people and businesses still making a
fortune thanks to these "unfair" and "ludicrous" Rent
Laws.
On the 29th of June 2008, thanks to Minister Dalli and Robert Arrigo, the
White paper on 'Rent Reform' has finally been published.
'The White paper was a good and courageous start'
You may view these "Recommendations" and download the whole White
paper" here or go to the website above.
The
Malta Chamber of Commerce and Enterprise welcomes the rent law reform
white paper:
Published on 4-Jul-2008
“A
strong and solid step in the right direction”
There are other proposals which in the opinion of the Chamber need
fine-tuning or reconsideration.
The Chamber also feels that certain aspects have been omitted, and it will
be highlighting these in its detailed submissions
as an official reaction to this White Paper – Chamber
publishes Position Paper on Rent Laws Reform
published on 26-Aug-2008

The GRTU wishes to impose it's own ridiculous baseless
rants and diatribes !
The latest attack on landlords Rent
Reform: Who will really, really benefit? Wednesday 13th August.
Another fantastic article named after some real brain teaser "Rip-Off
of the century" (sic), like
they really know.
Mr. Vincent Farrugia and Paul whatshisname Abela made connotations
to many misspellings (surnames),
further proving arrogance and ridicule about any real issue above their
own.
Who knows how much they would really have to pay for their premises should
the Rent Reform be implemented.
Maybe too close to home. Please feel free to send e-mails to both
